4th of July Essentials: What We’re Packing

Summer is almost in full swing, and the 4th of July is just around the corner! Fireworks, parades, and a day in the sun. Whether you’re spending the 4th cooling off at the lake or tanning on the beach, you’ll need lightweight pieces that you can style in multiple ways.

We’ve compiled a list of our top essentials to be comfortable and chic this holiday, in and out of the water.

what to wear 4th of July weekend

Swimsuits in Red, White, or Blue

While we love a timeless black swimsuit (and you should still bring one if you’re traveling!), wear a swimsuit in red, white, or blue on the 4th. The Kara Key Hole One-Piece or String Bikini Top with matching bottoms in our new Coastal Stripe print, featuring varying shades of blue are perfect for the holiday.

For a pop of red, the Wrap One-Piece or Shirred Crossover Bra in bright Flamenco Coral are also great choices — some call the color coral, others say it’s red, and we say it’s perfect for the 4th!

Easy Breezy Cover-ups

No matter where you’re spending the holiday, chances are it’s going to be hot in July. Pair your swimsuits with cover-ups in breathable fabrics like cotton or linen. Our favorites? The Kendall Crochet Dress in White is a classic sheath dress, your go-to companion for lunch by the pool. And if you want a little more coverage, the Camp Shirt Cover-Up comes in three different colors, and you can style it with pants or skirts for dinner!

Stylish Rash Guard for Extra Sun Protection

If you plan on splashing in the pool with your littles or catching some waves, you may need a little extra sun protection! Pack a stylish and ultra-functional rash guard to wear over your swimsuit, like our Beach Break Rash Guard in Malibu or Montrose print — it also comes in Navy and Black. This rash guard is complete with UPF 50+ and has thumb holes to prevent ride-up.

Lightweight Wrap for Cool Nights

Traveling to the Northeast, Upper Midwest, or Northern California this 4th? While the days may be hot, the nights can quickly get chilly. Be sure to pack a lightweight cardigan or wrap, like our Essential Wrap, to stay cozy during outdoor dinners and bonfires. Our soft wraps come in five different colors and double as beautiful scarves. If you’re flying, you can even use the wrap as a blanket!

Beach-to-Dinner Dresses

Whether you’re driving or flying to your getaway, your suitcase or duffel space is precious. Bring versatile clothing that can be styled for multiple occasions. We recommend our Sanibel Dress in Ombre Geo and Monaco Wrap Dress in Navy; both are perfect to wear during a 4th of July parade and, later, cocktails by the lake.

Comfy Fit for the Car or Plane

No matter how you’re traveling, you can’t go wrong with a monochromatic, comfy travel outfit. Our favorite combination is the Logan Jogger and Classic Tank in White, a bright set to complement your summer glow. If you’re traveling with little ones, these pieces also come in navy if you’re concerned about spills! And once you reach your destination, you can wear these pieces to lounge or again on the way home.

Other Summer Essentials

Now that you have your 4th of July outfits planned, there are a few other essentials we wouldn’t leave the house without. First, a beach tote, like our Stripe Tote in Blue, easily doubles as a travel bag. Don’t forget to bring along skin essentials like sunscreen, aloe vera, and bug spray. Other accessories like a large sun hat, hair clip, and sunglasses are also lifesavers on sunny days!
